Special Treat 100,000 Hits : Classic Jazz Fusion Disco Mix

My blog has reached 100,000 visits 2 days ago and it’s still going up!

This would have not been possible without all of you whom have visited and those loyal ones who kept returning to this blog, and I'd like to say a big THANK YOU! You are all my inspiration in keeping this blog alive.

This another accomplishment for me considering this blog started in September of 2008 as a hobby.

I have seen a lot of blogs come and go the past few months. Just letting all you know that I am in it for the long run so this blog will continue until I say so.

Last September 2009, when this blog had it's one year anniversary I also hit the magical number of one of the top one million sites in the world according to Alexa's stats. It was hard but I did it. I was posting more than one mix per day for that whole month!

Blogging is so time consuming and can be good if you are making money on it but in my case I do not make money out of it and I only update my blog when I have the spare time as I do have a regular day job, plus I do have chores to do in my house. In case you guys did not know I am the chef of my maison.

I am also finishing restoration of my classic BMW in time for summer and it is also the start of the fishing season ( I do like sport fishing) and I still have my regular radio shows at Faderwave Radio and DanceRadio Canada.

So factor all of this things that I do on a daily basis plus trying to make a mix tape like every 2-3 days which btw takes at least three hours of time, I am a very, very busy person.

You should all give me credit for still finding time to blog and do mixes and update my Facebook fan page as well. By the time all of this is done in a day's work I am really tired and I tend to sleep late and wake up early everyday. I'm not young anymore so I need to take a break from time to time, and that is what I have been doing now, just taking it easy with this blog.

Because of this milestone I am treating you to this nice mix of classic 70's & 80's jazzy funky disco music, just in time for summer.

FYI, I do not rehearse or practice my mixes, I always do it on the fly and record it on the spot with no retakes, as I do not have the time to rehearse.

100% all original vinyl. Enjoy!

Peace & Love to all of you!
Dave

PS. Sorry no artists in the track listing to avoid getting deleted by the DMCA cops!

DISCO - The Best Of Alec R. Constandinos Medley

Alec R. Costandinos, (born Alexandre Kouyoumdjian in 1944 in Cairo, Egypt). He has long been considered one of the original catalysts of the French disco scene of the 70's. He was also intimately involved as a writer, publisher and musician in the development of Aphrodite's Child with Vangelis and Greek-born pop singer, Demis Roussos. On the disco front, he contributed to the debut album of Crystal Grass, which featured the club hit "Crystal World", released on the Philips label in France. Alec was also the publisher of hits for various artists including French chanteuse Dalida. Aside his name, he has also written under the pseudonym R. Rupen.

His father was Armenian and his mother was Greek.

He is known for his outstanding collaborations that assisted in the development of French disco drummer Cerrone. During Cerrone's tenure with John Kongos and later fusion act Kongas, their collaboration "Anikana-O", led to the solo release of Cerrone's "Love In C Minor". The 17 minute disco opus was an instant disco hit and sent shock waves through the club circuit, echoing Donna Summer's ode to love from a male perspective. Four cuts were featured on the complete album, including the spectacular "Midnite Lady".

After parting company with Cerrone, Constandinos launched his own project, the aptly titled Love & Kisses. Released initially on the Barclay distributed Rei Vera label in France, his two song album, featuring "Accidental Lover" and the instant classic "I've Found Love (Now That I've Found You)" rocketed up the Billboard Disco Charts. Sung by the late Joanne Stone (also known as Joanne Williamstone), with a chorus rumoured to be a collective of Sunny Leslie & Sue Glover, it was the genesis of Alec's foray into the U.S. disco market. It also featured a provocative cover, with four hands ripping the t-shirt of a scantily clad model.
Casablanca Records immediately snapped up the American rights to the album, the first of a long term collaboration of projects. "Accidental Lover" was also covered in America, and released on the Salsoul imprint owned by Tom Moulton.

Costandinos collaborated for a 2nd time with French arranger Raymond Donnez, aka Don Ray on an additional project, in the form of a re-telling of Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet". Using the same ensemble cast as with Love & Kisses, it also rocketed to # 1. This project was composed completely by Alec himself, delivered in five pieces of in "suite" form, with parts 1 & 2 being the "hit single" elements and the "B" side being more of a downtempoed "morning music" flavour.
The project was released under the name Alec. R Costandinos & The Synchophonic Orchestra.
Several other concept albums were produced by Alec. The story of Judas Iscariot was presented in the form of "Simon Peter" on the album Sphinx. Paris Connection, was essentially an album of previously recorded songs such as "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" framed around newly created elements. The gem of this project was a blissful re-interpretation of Barry Ryan's 1965 hit "Eloise" as the key selection. He has also scored international movies such as "Trocadero Bleu Citron". Perhaps the best of his more "underground" or "cult" recordings was "Golden Tears" by Sumeria. The story of a man who falls to earth to become part of the human race, it features hits such as "Dance (And Leave It All Behind You). Loosely, it also appears to foreshadow a few ABC television series developed around the same time: Mork & Mindy.

Love & Kisses made additional chart appearance with singles such as "How Much, How Much I Love You", as well as the title track from the Casablanca filmworks feature film Thank God It's Friday. "You're The Most Precious Thing In My Life" was also included on the soundtrack. Extended versions were shipped to disco DJ's as part of a promotion-only set. Under the name of Alec. R. Costandinos & The Synchophonic Orchestra, additional projects were released without significant hit results.

After his days at Casablanca, he recorded for RCA France, having had success with tracks such as "Something's Cookin'" and "Americana". He also released additional singles in French on the Carrere label. He also produced Tina Turner's debut solo album on EMI, which featured the disco hit "Love Explosion".

This is my tribute to Alec R. Constandinos.
Mixed and recorded on the fly. 100 % Original Disco Vinyl.

Disco Funk Old & New

I combined old and new disco tunes. The new ones were samples and loops of the original disco songs done by groups such as 6th Burough Project, The Revenge etc.

I also played some really rare and expensive original disco records which I should not be really doing to preserve them but I have to for this mix.

Mixed and recorded on the fly. Enjoy!

The Salsoul Orchestra was the backing band for acts on Salsoul Records. It was formed 1974 in New York., U.S. and disbanded in 1982. Their music featured elements of Philly Soul, Funk, Latin Music and disco. The Salsoul Orchestra included up to 50 members with instrumental section, arrangers and conductors. The Salsoul Orchestra was conducted by Vincent Montana Jr.(1975- 1978) Production duties came, from 1978 to 1983, by Tom Moulton, Stan Lucas, Patrick Adams & Bunny Sigler.

The personnel of the Salsoul orchestra and MFSB overlapped substantially.
Their song, "Love Break (Ooh I Love It)" has been sampled in rap songs such as 50 Cent's "Candyshop" and Eric B & Rakim's "Paid in Full", but most notably in Madonna's "Vogue".

I have been very busy lately with my recent collaboration with Jackie Pashley at my Faderwave Radio these past 3 weeks.

I did this mix for one of my loyal listeners from Italy Mr. Enea Colombo who likes Salsoul Orchestra a lot . This compilation features their songs from 1975 to 1979 which were the best.

Mixed and recorded on the fly. 100 % Pure Disco Vinyl. Enjoy!

Dave

The Best Gino Soccio Medley Mix

Gino Soccio

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gino Soccio is a Canadian disco producer born in 1955 in Montreal. His heritage is Italian. His only US Hot 100 entry was the #48 "Dancer" in 1979, but he did hit #1 on the US Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart twice ("Dancer" / "Dance to Dance" in 1979 and "Try It Out" / "Hold Tight" in 1981, six weeks each). Gino's third biggest hit "It's Alright"/"Look At Yourself" from his mega album "Face to Face" reached #2 for 5 weeks also on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. "Turn it around" was released as a single-only in 1984.

In the UK he received airplay from Robbie Vincent on Radio London and Greg Edwards on Capital Radio on imported RFC Records out of New York a subsidiary of Warner Bros Records. He also assembled and produced the disco studio group Witch Queen, best known for their Top 10 dance hit "Bang A Gong" / "All Right Now" in 1979. While it may not have topped the charts the song "Remember" was a NYC club favourite in the 80s. It has been remixed dozens of times by some famous DJs when it was released and has been remixed by countless others even recently.
From his myspace tribute:

How many musicians can you name who reach number one on the disco charts with their debut record. Gino Soccio has done it with his hit “Dancer.” Young (he’s only 23 years old!), good-looking (take a gander at the accompanying photo), and very talented, Gino appears to have a very bright future.

Although his primary instrument is the piano, Gino plays an amazing number of others: acoustic guitar, drums, synthesizers. In addition, he handles horn and string arrangements as well as lead vocals. Something of a Renaissance disco man, you might say.

Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Gino began studying piano at the age of 8. His parents insisted that he extend his cultural background. As he puts it, “I wasn’t into sports very much, and music was a good way to get out of it.” By the time he was 11 Gino was enjoying playing Bach sonatas, “because after one listening they would stay in your head – they really had hooks.” By the age of 18 Gino had begun renting electronic keyboards and synthesizers to use in his own home studio. He was so into recording his own music that he gave up entirely on social life.

The next year he was ready for his first break. It came after a producer asked him to play keyboards and write a tune for a group called Kebekeletrik (Quebec Electrique). He ended up, however, doing practically the whole LP by himself. This meant recording 48 tracks, synthesized drums to keyboards, soup to nuts. Fortunately for Gino, “War Dance” went top ten disco in the U.S. When Gino walked into a Montreal disco and saw how much people were enjoying dancing to his music, he was hooked on disco.
With this first success, Gino dropped out of college, using the money he made to record one more demo. When Ray Caviano, head of Warner/RFC Records, heard it, he signed Gino to inaugurate his new label and rest is history. The album “Outline” is now considered one of the most adventurous disco LPs.

My quote:
Gino is considered to be one of the pioneers of disco and electronic music and is up there with the likes of Giorgio Moroder, Dennis Le Page, Patrick Cowley, Harold Faltmeyer, Mauro Malavasi, Kraftwerk, etc.....

Gino Soccio is one of my favorite disco artists who also happens to be a Canadian like me. This is my tribute mix to him. Gino, where ever you are please come out of retirement and do another album!

I included all the early albums from 1977 to 1985 and his work with Kebekelektrik and Witch Queen. I did not include his single Magic which was released on the ZYX label in 1987. I did two remixes of his songs and made them more DJ friendly and these are only exclusive here at djdavep blogspot.

Mixed and recorded on the fly. 100 % All original vinyl.

Peace,
Dave

60 Minutes Of Disco 20

I am on a roll this month. I have been posting at least one mix a day in reality I was posting more than one for each day of this month. I wanted to make this month of September special as it is the first year anniversary of this blog. I would like to thank all of you for support you have given me my regular and loyal blog visitors.

To all the Discophiles all over the world, this a special compilation that I made. A lot of nice funky grooves in this mix. I played the songs more longer now as some people are saying that I was playing the old disco classics too short sometimes.

I showcased some producers that were important back in the disco days in this compilation. James Mtume and Reggie Lucas, who produced and wrote songs for Phyllis Hyman, and Stephanie Mills. Willie Lester & Rodney for their work with Bobby Thurston, Sharon Redd and Gayle Adams.

Mixed and recorded on the fly. 100 Original Disco Vinyl. Enjoy!

Dave

Special Disco Tribute Mix For Snooky Potenciano

I made this special disco mix as a tribute to a good friend of mine Candido "Snooky" Potenciano who passed away two years ago. He was a very good down to earth person. He also had a passion for music like I did and he was a DJ as well.

The tracks in this compilation are the songs that reminded me of him when I first met him in a party that he was the DJ and he liked these tracks too.

I know that he has found his peace and I am glad for him.

Peace,
Dave

60 Minutes Of Disco 18

Discophiles:

It has been a long time since I have not made a disco compilation. I have been so busy this summer. It is not really easy to make this type of compilation even though I have thousands of disco records in my collection. First of all these are all vinyl and I have to dig thru all those records to look for songs that I have not used yet.

Anyways I present to you number 18 in a series of "60 Minutes Of Disco" mixset compilations that I have made so far. This contains some rare early disco tracks.

Mixed and recorded on the fly. 100 % Pure and original 12" Disco Singles. Enjoy!

Peace,
Dave

60 Minutes Of Disco 15

Discophiles!

I know that you guys check my blog for new mixes. I do my best as much as possible to make a new mix or two once a week.

I find this hard to do sometimes and it takes a couple of hours to do one, from mixing & recording, uploading and posting.

I have other things to do as well and I do have a regular day job that also takes a lot of my time, and my club gigs on the weekends, my radio show every Saturday and Sunday at Faderwave Radio. I do have household chores too. I don't even know where I get the energy to do all this!

A lot of Bloggers are under appreciated for their time and effort in maintaining their blogs. At least some of you appreciate what I do. Blogging is a very time consuming process.

So do not forget to THANK your favorite bloggers or blogsites. Without us life would not be so entertaining or interesting.

Now that summer is fast approaching I will be more busier and I hope to still churn out a mix or two every week time permitting.

Here is mixset number 15 of my "60 Minutes Of Disco Compilations". A lot of good tunes is this mix that a real disco fanatic will recognize.

I dedicate this mix to my good friend Osay Litton from SF.

Mixed and recorded on the fly. 100% pure disco vinyl.

Peace,
Dave
