The Best Of Canadian Disco 1 & 2

The success story of the husband and wife songwriting duo Dennis and Denyse LePage is one of my favorites. These two released their first album Your Love in 1981 and weeks later they were at the top of the dance charts in the UK, the US, Canada, and Mexico. The Lepages' became so successful that rather tour themselves they hired models to go on the road and perform for them as the act Lime. (Picture and story taken from http://www.walrusmusicblog.com/)
Classic Dance fans:
Many of you don't know that there were a lot of good disco songs that came out of Canada! In fact they were one of the pioneers too in disco and house music with that distinct "canadian disco" sound.

To name a few artists like:

Gino Soccio, France Joli, Lime, Freddie James, Erotic Drum Band, Katmandu, Carol Jiani, Voggue, Nightlife Unlimited, Witch Queen, Hydro Featuring Lorna, Vera, Diva, Christopher Mills, Mother F, Extensive Care, Joy, Mystery, Geraldine Cordeau, Peter Batah, U.N., Kumano and Bryan Adams!

You must be wondering why Bryan Adams the famous canadian rock star? Well the first record he made in 1978 was a disco song "Let Me Take You Dancing". The remixer John Luongo sped up his voice so that is why it did not sound like him at all. See & Listen to part 2.

Most of the producers and song writers like, Dennis Lepage, George Cuccuzella, Peter di Milo, Gino Soccio, Peter Alves, Joe La Greca, Tony Green, Tony D'Orazio, Don Saunders, Louis Toteda were based in mostly in Montreal and a few in Toronto.

I am proud to be a canadian, so this my tribute compilation of the best Canadian disco music.

Mixed and recorded on the fly. 100% Canadian vinyl. Enjoy!

Peace,
Dave

To Listen Or DL:

France Joli, sultry canadian disco diva. France Joli is a Canadian singer (born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1963), best known for Pop, Urban and Hi-NRG hits.
Her first single (released when she was 16) was "Come to Me," and it hit #1 on the US Dance chart in 1979. On the Billboard Hot 100, it was her biggest mainstream hit, breaking the Top 20 at #15. The success of the single put her in demand for talk shows with Merv Griffin and Dinah Shore and a Bob Hope special.

From Jim Vallance's web page:
"Let Me Take You Dancing" was the first solo recording by Bryan Adams, age 18 (he'd previously been a member of the Canadian group "Sweeney Todd", and had participated in writing and recording their album, "If Wishes Were Horses"). "Let Me Take You Dancing" was written during the first week or two Bryan and I spent together in January/February 1978, and started off as a Robbie King-inspired rag-time piano riff I’d written on my parents' piano during Christmas holidays, 1977.
Bryan helped turn the riff into a song.In 1978 Bryan hadn't yet "found" his voice. He was still singing in a high, fragile vocal range, a hold-over from his time with "Sweeney Todd", where he'd been expected to emulate former singer Nick Gilder.
It didn't help matters when "Let Me Take You Dancing" was sped up during the re-mix, making Bryan sound like a chipmunk on helium!Nearly 20 years later, in 1997, Howard Stern played "Let Me Take You Dancing" on his radio show, offering $500 to anyone who could name the recording artist. No-one claimed the prize.
