01/ 08/ 2008 Entries Part I

Another day, new blogs and a lot of small surprises. African Hip Hop, Brecht and a clean lay-out:

  • WorldVix - Sometimes you have blogs that are popular, because they have popular music, while other times they have a clean and clear lay out. Well, this blog has both, easy lay out/ easy music.
  • Zero G Sound - I like this blog. Why? because it was brave enough to post some poems of Brecht! Who? Forget about it! This blog is definitely Avant, Prog. and Poetic with a lot of German spirit! A TIP!.
  • Totally Fuzzy This Blog needs no introduction. Legendary and attracting thousands of visitors each day. TIP!
  • Naija Jams - I have been to a lot of countries, but I am ashamed to say that I have never visited any in Africa. High in the list is however Nigeria. The reason - music being one. Check it out, a Nigerian music Blog!
  • African Hiphop - Sometimes, I get tired of all that American Gangsta rap. What a relief there is such a thing as classic African Hip Hop. A TIP is well deserved for this blog!

31/ 07/ 2008 Entries Part I

These blogs are all A-class and I cant decide which one to recommend more. Just check them out:

  • Zinhof My Music - This blog knows its music. The whole Beatles discography, BB King, Billy Idol, but also Etta James and even Whitesnake (A lot of "Best of and discographies).
  • NitroFiles - Is another decent blog. Featuring New Order, Simple Minds, but also more mainstream Pop and Rock music.
  • 8 DAYS IN APRIL - Want to know what 'Krautrock' constitutes of? Check this blog out. Also your source for Vintage Psychedelic and Progressive rock! This is quality!
  • TWILIGHTZONE! I reckon that this must be the best music blog that I visited today. Kuddos for the twilight! Psychedelic, garage, trashy punk and even some classic rock & roll. Definitely TIP!
  • Opium Ben - I spoke to Ben yesterday and asked him to describe his Blog, he responded: "Quark, Strangeness & Charm" I think he was right. TIP d'art l'avant garde!

The Baron Of Techno delves Back In The Box

International DJ and producer Dave Clarke, also known as "The Baron of Techno" (TM) has compiled and mixed the third installment of NRK's popular Back In The Box compilation series. Clarke follows on from Joey Negro and 'Little' Louie Vega's selections, and offers up a blistering selection of early house and acid tunes.

BACK IN THE BOX takes the World’s leading and longest serving DJ legends, and invites them to plunder deep into their collections to those old house records that rocked the party time and time again, records that have since been left dormant on the shelves, waiting for the right moment to be dusted off (and this is that moment!). Dave Clarke transports us back to the late 80s with a heady, sweaty, basement club mix of Chi-town house originals, heavy 909 drum workouts, sleazy vocals, brain scrambling 303 acid patterns and cold, moody synths. Whilst the industry celebrates 20 years of house music, many tracks on this compilation pre-date this with early productions from 1986/1987 coming from the likes of Farley Jackmaster Funk, Fast Eddie Smith, Mr. Lee, Master C&J and a superb early offering from Manchester's t-Coy (AKA Mike Pickering & co.) Underated classics from Foremost Poets, Julian Jonah, Blake Baxter and Pierre's Fantasy Club are mixed up in Clarke's inimitable fashion, and showcases some of his many roots and influences for the music that he has become world renowned for.

Dave Clarke has long been synonomous with the UK's techno scene, having set the foundations for modern techno music with his "Red" series in the early 90s, and with continued success with productions on labels such as Deconstruction and Skint. His electro inspried DJ sets have rocked many thousands across the globe, racking up an amazing gig-ography over the years and playing huge festivals and events. Dave Clarke also built up a great kinship with the late Uk radio legend, John Peel; the man who gave Clarke his well known moniker "The Baron Of Techno".

Dave Clarke's Back In The Box is released on October 6th 2008 on double CD (incl. bonus unmixed CD), digital album release and 12" vinyl samplers. Full tracklisting to be revealed shortly, check out some of the choice cuts included now though on the links below.

A Blackman, a Blackman and Another Blackman - I Believe

Foremost Poets - Reasons to be Dismal
Julian Jonah - Jealousy and Lies
Blake Baxter - When A Thought Becomes You
Ralphi Rosario - I Want You (Transcontinental Mix)

29/ 07/ 2008 Entries Part I

Today some experimental, inter-disciplinary, difficult to categorise sounds to make your ears tinkle. I love these blogs, although they are giving me a hard time to categorise them!
  • autov3rs3 - Mixing electro with rock and Funk with lyrics without words.
  • avant-spiral - Has music that you are not supposed to enjoy (and that's a complement!).
  • Baroque Dub - Mixing dub with all other things (Mixes only).
  • Prog not Frog - Has lots of very kool prog. rock gems and mixes it with jazz, funk etc.
  • A Closet of Curiosities (sister site of Basement Curiosities) - I have seen Chinese folk, twilight zone music, music for mythic moods. This blog is great for all kinds of niches!
  • Decoder - Avant Garde, unreleased, out of print, 'music from the avant-derriere end of town'.
  • Wassonii - Out of Print releases, clips and other rarities.

The Dark Knight as a record breaking phenomena.

Oh, Heath Ledger.. i wish he was still alive so somebody could come up to him in an interview and ask "what inspired you in such a spine-chilling perfomance?" what would he say? we will never know..

and that's sad.

The Dark Knight has been out for 16 days and has already broken several records.

"The `Titanic' record has sat in a lock box for 10 years. It's a tall order but if any film has a chance to surpass that number, it's got to be `Dark Knight,'" Paul Dergarabedian said, president of Media By Numbers.

"THE DARK KNIGHT" RECORDS THUS FAR (IN ORDER OF OCCURRENCE):
1 - LARGEST NUMBER OF OPENING THEATRES WITH 4,366 (MORE THAN THE 4,362 DEBUT THEATRES OF "PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END IN 2007).

2 - BIGGEST MIDNIGHT PREVIEW GROSS WITH $18.489 MILLION IN 3,040 THEATRES (THIS BEATS "STAR WARS EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH" AND ITS $16.9 MILLION IN 2,915 THEATRES IN 2005).

3 - BIGGEST IMAX MIDNIGHT PREVIEWS SET AN NEW RECORD WITH $640,000 (THIS AMOUNT WAS APPROPRIATELY INCLUDED IN THE $18.489 MILLION PREVIEW NUMBER).

4 - BIGGEST SINGLE-DAY GROSS IN BOX-OFFICE HISTORY WITH $67,165,092 (THIS BESTS THE $59,841,919 SET BY "SPIDER-MAN 3" IN 2007).

5 - BIGGEST OPENING WEEKEND GROSS IN BOX-OFFICE HISTORY WITH $158,411,483 MILLION (THIS BESTS THE $151,116,516 SET BY "SPIDER-MAN 3" IN 2007).

6 - BIGGEST OPENING WEEKEND GROSS FOR AN IMAX RELEASE IN BOX-OFFICE HISTORY WITH $6,214,061 MILLION IN 94 THEATRES ($66,107 PER-THEATRE!) (THIS BESTS THE $4.7 MILLION SET BY "SPIDER-MAN 3" IN 2007) - IMAX SHOWING AT FULL CAPACITY $1.9 MILLION ON SATURDAY ALONE.

7 - BIGGEST SINGLE-DAY SUNDAY GROSS WITH $43,596,151 (THIS BEATS THE $39,937,865 SET BY "SPIDER-MAN 3" ON ITS DEBUT WEEKEND).

8 - FASTEST SPRINT TO $200 MILLION DOMESTICALLY IN JUST FIVE DAYS.

in case you haven't seen the movie yet (what the fuck is wrong with you?), here is one of the best moments from that bad guy that steals the show.

why so serious?
One Love.

Suges

Sugestramentals

Soulstream

“Over his eight-year career, Suges has become well-known for staying largely focused on delivering deep vocal house productions. During this time however the mythical Suges Vault has been amassing a sizable collection of unreleased material, from sketches to fully-produced material that never made it to vinyl. Here then, for the first time, Suges collects his favourite unreleased material for his first ever instrumental release, Sugestramentals. The term ''instrumental'' is used loosely: with virtually an entire discography of vocal productions, Suges considers anything without a verse, prechorus, chorus, and bridge to be an instrumental.” Quality.
